How many square feet will a 5 ton package unit cool?

A 5 ton package unit delivers about 60,000 BTU of cooling, which typically covers 2,000 to 3,000 square feet of light commercial space depending on occupancy, glass, ceiling height and how much heat the equipment inside gives off. A restaurant kitchen or a server room needs far more capacity per square foot than an office. Have a load calculation done for the space rather than sizing on floor area alone.

Does a Daikin 5 ton package unit include heat?

The units on this page are cooling-only air conditioners that accept an optional electric heat kit for supplemental or primary heat. If the building needs gas heat, Daikin builds gas and electric packaged units in the same 5 ton capacity, and a packaged heat pump version exists as well. Tell us how the building is heated today and we will point you to the right cabinet.

Do I need single phase or three phase?

Match the unit to the electrical service already in the building. Small commercial buildings, converted houses and many strip retail units have 230 volt single phase service; larger buildings usually have 230 or 460 volt three phase. Ordering the wrong phase means a return, so check the panel or ask your electrician before you choose. All three variants are listed on this page.

What is the difference between the 13.7 and 16.4 SEER2 models?

The 13.7 SEER2 unit is the standard efficiency tier and the 16.4 SEER2 unit is the high-efficiency tier, roughly 20 percent more efficient at the rated condition. The higher tier costs more up front and returns the difference in electricity over the unit's life, so the longer the cooling season and the higher the rate, the stronger the case. Some energy codes require the higher tier for new construction.

What accessories does a rooftop package unit need?

A rooftop installation needs a roof curb sized to the unit, and most jobs add an economizer for free cooling in mild weather, an outdoor air damper for ventilation code, and an electric heat kit if the unit is the building's only heat source. Ground-mount installations skip the curb but still need a level pad and duct transitions. We quote the accessories with the unit so they arrive together.
